Boutique Reading Townhouse Luxury near London

The Roseate Reading logo

There’s good reason The Roseate Reading was dubbed the ‘UK’s Sexiest Townhouse Hotel’ by the Evening Standard. Pass through the doors of the historic red-brick building to discover interiors that are just as grand as the façade: chandeliers dripping with Italian glass beads, vaulted ceilings, elaborate wood carvings and crackling fireplaces all contribute to an atmosphere of cosy, art-inspired luxury, complemented by paintings and sculptures sourced from around the world.

Ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor, the hotel is nestled conveniently between London and the Oxfordshire countryside, a fabulous base for exploring southern England. See the sights of the Big Smoke, indulge in a luxury shopping spree at the world-famous Bicester Village, lose yourself in the charming Cotswolds villages, visit the dreaming spires of Oxford University, or make the short 30-minute drive to Heston Blumenthal’s world-famous restaurant, The Fat Duck. You might even venture down to seaside Brighton, just a 1.5-hour drive away. Back at your hotel, relax in boutique splendour and treat yourself to a blissful spa treatment, European cuisine or traditional British afternoon tea.

Highly recommend. We stayed in the “House”, which is the newer section of the hotel - the rooms were beautifully styled, spacious and comfortable. Great location, close to the city centre and train station. The Reading Room is also worth a visit, especially for the afternoon tea!

Beautiful historic hotel in a lovely part of Reading. Had a room upgrade to a lovely big suite with large bathroom, roll top bath and walk in shower. It wasn't in the main hotel but was near the car park and unfortunately the air-conditioning/heating kept me awake most of the night as it kept clicking and switching. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating and the conference room was beautiful. Evening food was excellent. I'd highly recommend the fish dishes which were divine and we really enjoyed our evening meal. And we had a pleasant buffet lunch and refreshments during our business mastermind day. The coffee was excellent and oat milk and non dairy options were provided. Would definitely stay if down on business again.

Overall I had a really great stay at The Roseate. I chose to stay in one of the rooms in the “House” because of the air conditioning. This was great, it actually got cold which I feel can be rare for UK/EU hotels. Also, being in the House means I just had to take the lift up to the spa to get treatments, so that was nice. The bathroom was also spacious and clean, with nice (albeit skimpy) amenities. I also really appreciated the closet space and the bed was nice as well. WiFi stayed strong throughout the stay so I could work a bit. However, there were a few things that seemed neglected - most of the electronics (phone, cable tv, some lighting) didn’t work. I had to use my cell phone to order room service, for example. Breakfast included was okay, the buffet was a bit simple and again skimpy but the menu items were good. I will say this did not feel like an actual 5 star hotel, 4 stars would be more appropriate. The main reason I say that is the service was unimpressive to me. Everyone was nice enough (except for one of the waiters in the breakfast dining area who seemed annoyed with me) but I feel like they lack ownership and confidence to make me feel at ease. Maybe the manager can do some coaching. Also the “pre-authorization” for room service seemed odd to me, like they were expecting I wouldn’t be able to pay. Never experienced that even at 3 and 4 star hotels across the globe. Another reason why I don’t feel this is a true “5 star” hotel. The spa was great, I’ll write a separate review for them!

The Asian looking Receptionist was very lovely person and very professional. Felt very welcoming. But the public are, lobby , downstairs toilet really need a good scrubbing . Very dirty. Room is tired as expected but clean. Only problem was when the weather is hot, it’s like a steaming here. They only provide a loud noisy industrial fan which you can’t use while sleep. Need some new quiet fan! Bed is hard. Lots amenities including nice slippers. Big bathroom shower very powerful. Location is excellent next to the park and everything.
