We absolutely adore this hotel. We’ve stayed her many, many times whilst visiting our daughter who’s at University here in York. The hotel is modern and luxurious and effortlessly stylish. The rooms are beautifully appointed and have quaint finishing touches. The beds are divine, with exquisite bedding and gorgeous mattresses, we always sleep so well. We love that it’s a short stroll into the centre of town, and that all the attractions are on our doorstep. Anna, the restaurant manager is fabulous and along with Nathalie they helped us arrange a fabulous graduation champagne reception followed by dinner in The Pearly Cow. Nothing was too much trouble they were both so fab! We now can’t wait to try the other hotels in the group and will certainly be back to No 1 which now has a special place in our hearts. Thank you to the team for such wonderful hospitality.

We had a lovely stay at No.1 by GuestHouse in York. It’s very dog-friendly, with a warm welcome for both humans and pups, and the breakfast was excellent. The only downsides were the lack of air conditioning (which made the room quite warm in summer) and no mini fridge, which was a bit tricky for storing our dog’s food on a hot day. Otherwise, a charming and comfortable stay.

We loved our stay at No. 1 York - the location was brilliant (just a 10-minute walk into the city centre), staff were really welcoming, and the complimentary pantry was a highlight! Our room was beautifully styled, clean and quiet. We would love to stay again in the future, and would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing and stylish stay in York.

The hotel is truly beautiful with great attention to detail. I stayed for two nights, and my room was near the stairs—unfortunately, both nights were disrupted by late-night stomping noises, possibly from guests or staff. The second night was particularly busy, and I ended up having to raise a complaint. I had booked a spa package upon arrival. While the massage was relaxing, it didn’t quite feel like a full 60 minutes—more like 45 minutes of actual treatment. Afterward, my lunch was delayed by over 30 minutes. The staff did offer a complimentary drink to make up for it, which I really appreciated. The rooms are lovely with thoughtful touches, though they feel a bit cramped. That said, the table fan provided was enough to keep cool during the hot weather. Despite the few negatives, I’m still giving 4 stars because the staff were genuinely polite, attentive, and eager to help. And a big plus—the free pantry is a fantastic perk!
