Max Brown Canal District

Trendy Amsterdam Escape Overlooking the Canals

Max Brown Canal District logo

The quirky and vibrant essence of Amsterdam is expertly distilled through every corner of Max Brown Canal District – a stylish hotel spread across three historical houses, set upon the intersection of the city’s most iconic canals.

Step out of the hotel and onto Milkmaid’s Bridge to explore plenty of revered sights nearby, including the Anne Frank House, buzzing restaurants, bars and shopping spots. Ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor, the hotel offers contemporary interiors, worlds apart from its historic exterior, including modern accents, rich textures and pieces by local artists. The floor-to-ceiling book wall in the lobby will immediately capture your attention. When you want to unwind, the peaceful inner garden terrace is the ideal spot to curl up with a book and a drink from the honesty fridge or a board game from the communal stash.

This was our third stay at Max Brown Canal District Amsterdam, and once again it was wonderful. My partner and I truly love their rooms with canal views—they make it easy to immerse ourselves in the beauty and atmosphere of Amsterdam right by the water. The location is also perfect, with everything within easy reach. During this stay we had a small booking issue, but the staff kindly helped us resolve it quickly. We are very grateful for their support and warm hospitality. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy the charm of Amsterdam’s canals, and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you again!

Great location, short walking distance to central train station and many attractions. Staff were all exceptionally friendly. We lucked out and got upgraded to a canal view room. Due to location of the hotel views were beautiful, but the canal and sidewalk weren’t busy. The room was quiet and sleep quality was high. Only gripe was that we requested a double bed, but the two single beds were made up individually and would occasionally slide apart. Not sure if this would have been resolved had we brought it to the hotel’s attention, but we only stayed for 2 nights and didn’t want housekeeping. I found this hotel to be an excellent value and would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay here! The people working here are so friendly, helpful, and chill; plus, one helped me by carrying my suitcase up the narrow stairs! The room is definitely on the smaller side but that was in the description online. It was clean and the bathroom was nicely remodeled. We had a lovely view of the canal and the location was perfectly situated for walking around the whole city. I also accidentally left something behind and they were so communicative and kind! Overall, I would stay here again and highly recommend it!

I was very disappointed with my recent stay at Max Brown in Amsterdam. Firstly, the cost of the stay for two nights was absolutely extortionate for a single box room where I could barely do a full 360! I booked online a budget single room and it was €500 including breakfast which I thought would be substantial based on the photos of the room on the website. The room I received was far from what I booked and the worst part was, the bathroom was OUTSIDE the bedroom. Hence when I needed to use the loo, I had to go into the corridor and across the corridor to go to the bathroom. As you can understand, in the middle of the night this is far from ideal as I had to remember to bring my key with me and felt unsafe and uneasy leaving my room in my pjs in the dead of night. This was not mentioned upon booking which was extremely disappointing. The person who checked me in mentioned it to me but at that stage it was too late as there was no option to change room. The room also was up 3 flights of extremely high and steep stairs and there was no offer to help us with our luggage. Secondly, the breakfast was the most appalling hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. There was only boiled eggs from the ‘hot food’ front and flies flying around. The other options were cereal, croissants and toast which for €18 was a bit of a farce. The staff I must say were very friendly anytime we came in and left which is the only positive of the stay. I wouldn’t recommend as I know that the IBIS styles down the road would be a lot cheaper and would have bigger rooms and a better breakfast.
