We chose the Kimpton Clocktower due to it being ideally located opposite Oxford Road Station and the venue we were visiting, so from that perspective it was perfect. It can be noisy due to the proximity of the theatre and nightlife. I had booked, unknowingly, an unallocated room, which turned out to be an accessible one. I had noticed this a couple of days before arrival, and on emailing was told I could pay to upgrade. On checking in they suggested this had been a free upgrade due to my membership, but then backtracked when I pointed out I had paid and said I would not have been eligible for a free upgrade. There was a similar confusion on checkout when it turned out that someone else had charged room service to my room. This was removed, but I never received the email receipt as promised. The hotel has tons of character and we loved finding out about its history and features. Breakfast was decent but they ran out of several items and were slow to replace them. The room was large and comfortable with high quality towels and toiletries. We would stay here again.

This was, without question, the worst hotel experience of my life. The moment you leave the lobby, everything changes. The lobby itself is beautiful—clean, modern, and inviting—but as soon as you step into the hallway toward the rooms, it becomes a completely different world. The carpet is filthy, the lighting is eerie, and the entire atmosphere feels unsafe—like walking into a horror movie set. I was shown four different rooms because each one was dirty and unacceptable. The final “upgrade” I was given was to a handicap-accessible room that had a mysterious door beside the bed, which made me feel even more uneasy. The lights in the room would randomly turn on in the middle of the night, and I could hear strange noises and people talking through the walls. The rooms themselves are outdated, dull, and depressing. I genuinely felt scared during my entire stay. I even cried in the lobby during my first day in Manchester because I was so overwhelmed and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I had come from another country and couldn’t easily leave. I had also paid for two rooms—one for another guest who didn’t come—and although I didn’t expect a refund, I at least hoped for a decent upgrade. Instead, I was moved between dirty rooms for hours. This experience completely ruined what should have been an exciting trip. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone under any circumstances.
