Afternoon Tea – Amstel Hotel, Amsterdam "What an experience: Afternoon Tea at the Amstel Hotel isn't just any high tea; it's a culinary journey of discovery in a regal setting. As soon as you take your seat beneath the magnificent chandeliers and among the classic Delftware vases, you know this is going to be something special. I arrived just in time due to traffic jams, but thanks to the valet parking, my car was safely parked within minutes. Super convenient and perfectly in line with the hospitality you would expect from a hotel like this. The high tea started fresh and surprising with gazpacho and salmon rilette, followed by refined sandwiches such as brioche with beef ragout and bell pepper and burrata bruschetta. Then came the absolute highlight: the tiered stand filled with colorful sweets, including a light strawberry mousse, a tropical tartlet with passion fruit and meringue, and of course, the classic scones with clotted cream and homemade jam – perfectly executed. The tea selection (Dammann Frères) is carefully composed, with blends that beautifully complement the flavors. The Sparkling Juicy Tea vanilla & quince was a particularly surprising and elegant addition. The service also deserves praise: friendly, professional, yet warm and personal. Everything was perfect – the ambiance, the flavors, the presentation, and the experience. I was able to share this special afternoon with someone very special to me, which only made the experience even more unforgettable. Highly recommended – perfect for a special occasion, a romantic getaway, or simply to treat yourself.

Virginia and her team at breakfast does an awesome job. But front desk, bellmen and all the staff were also fantastic. Turndown service needs a lot of attention. But we tolerated the disappointment. Paris is a great city and really makes it wonderful when you return to such a great hotel in the evening. See you all when we return to Paris.

The Amstel rises with stately grace upon the river, its silhouette still commanding. Inside, one is enveloped in history, where gilded ceilings and hushed corridors speak of another age. Yet beneath the polish lies a certain weariness, as though the walls themselves sigh with memory. The service remains gracious, the atmosphere refined, but the sparkle has softened into a quiet patina. One hopes the InterContinental will cherish and restore her, so she may truly shine again as a flagship.

Very Dirty – Extremely Disappointing Stay and Not Worth the Price I had high expectations for the InterContinental given its reputation and price, but the experience was shockingly poor. First of all, the hotel is extremely overpriced for what it offers. The maintenance is neglected things look old, worn-out, and not properly cared for. The reception staff were unwelcoming and unfriendly, which set a bad tone from the start. Worst of all, the cleaning was absolutely unacceptable. The room was honestly one of the dirtiest I’ve ever stayed in dusty surfaces, dirty floors, and a bathroom that clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. On top of that, the location is very inconvenient. It’s far from the city center you’ll need at least 30 minutes of walking to reach most places. Even taxis charged us extra just because of where the hotel is located. Would definitely not recommend this hotel. Save your money and stay somewhere that’s actually clean, well-located, and respectful to guests.
