Another great stay at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach! This hotel is truly the prime location when visiting Southern California — close to the best beaches, restaurants, and shopping. The property is always clean and welcoming, and the staff consistently goes above and beyond. I recently realized I had left one of my favorite pairs of shoes in my room after checking out. I called the hotel, and Juan Martinez promptly located them and arranged to have them returned to me. Excellent service and another reason I’ll continue to stay here whenever I’m in the area.

Our family spontaneously decided to take a quick getaway to Newport Beach for Labor Day weekend, and we chose the Hyatt for its water slide and close proximity to the beach. The experience exceeded our expectations. After a hot afternoon at the beach, we arrived at the hotel an hour before check-in time, and they graciously accommodated us with a room right away. Our room was just steps away from the family-friendly pool, which featured a DJ, bingo games, and a cotton candy event. We spent the entire day at the pool, and the kids absolutely loved it. It's one of the most kid-friendly hotels we've ever stayed at! The pool can get crowded quickly, so I recommend families with small children arrive early (right when it opens at 8 am) to secure a good spot. We're glad we booked the Hyatt and now know where to stay the next time we're in Newport!

The property was so big and it was a hike to your room depending on where you were. I had a room with my brother for two days and it was $40 each day to park which was absurd, and an $80 resort fee. The room was okay could have been a lot cleaner. I attended a jazz concert on the back grass of the hotel and the seating was horrible, sitting on wooden fold up chairs so close to one another you are touching shoulders and legs with the person next to you and for $100 a seat and up"WOW"! If that's the famous Hyatt quality at all the locations, I know won't be visiting again.

The good: The location is good, an easy drive to the beach and easy to get to and from. The resort part of the hotel that I utilized is nice - the pools, hot tub, etc. The valet, front desk associate, bellman, and some of the restaurant staff I interreacted with were pleasant and helpful. The pool hours are favorable as I was able to enjoy early mornings by the pool before heading out for work meetings. The bed seemed comfortable enough. The AC did work quite well but due to the lack of seal around the door it seemed to run constantly. The not so good: The rooms are quite dated and did not feel nice to hang out in, it felt somewhat like a dungeon due to being dark (only one small window) and damp from humidity. Also, the door seal was practically non-existent for my room so light shown through and I came across multiple bugs during my two night stay that I assume just wandered in under the door crack. The carpet was sticky and walking around barefoot in the room caused the soles of my feet to turn a bit dark and need cleaning - so bring slippers. There are bright lights outside the rooms that shine in the window at night because the curtains do not close enough to block them out. I ate at the restaurant for one meal, it was okay but not worth returning to try anything else as I felt the quality was low. Also, I imagine because the seal around the door was non-existent, I was woken a few times in the night by people passing by having conversations as I could hear them clear as day. If you don't plan to spend much time in the room or don't mind an outdated room, then this might be the perfect place for you to stay. If you are traveling for work like I was or prefer a certain standard of room when traveling, then you might want to find elsewhere. It does seem like a great place to stay with kids though as the resort has a water slide and splash pad.
