First time visitors to Paris tend to wander in familiar circles around the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Elysées, forgetting to take in the local sensations offered by the nineteen other arrondissements. Quaint bistros, tree-lined streets, the Latin Quarter and the popular Montparnasse all await with a stay at Hôtel Le Cinq Codet, situated a stone’s throw from the Eiffel Tower.
What You’ll Love…
The Location – Trace the footsteps of Hemingway in the 7th arrondissement
Nestled in between the Eiffel Tower and famed Les Invalides, The Left Bank—known as ‘La Rive Gauche’ in French—is a smaller section of Paris consisting of six arrondissements and the historical touch of some of the world’s most famous writers and artists.
Once upon a time, the then-struggling artists Picasso and Matisse lived alongside Hemingway in this very part of the city – which was once known as the affordable Paris. Nowadays, the trendy Left Bank showcases as many high-end apartments, glitzy restaurants and chic speakeasies as the Right Bank, while still maintaining the underlining artistic ambience it once had.
The Hotel – A boutique masterpiece by architect Jean-Philipe Nuel
Embodying Parisian elegance at its best; white woods, rich leathers and neutral-coloured décor sit alongside an eclectic mix of art by Christian Bassot, Véronique Durruty, Christophe Dugied and more; making this former telephone exchange a sophisticated oasis.
Erected in the 1930’s this charming building encompasses the city’s history while oozing a contemporary, art-deco vibe that is essential for the modern-day traveller. Enjoy luxurious amenities like the lush spa, deluxe fitness centre, quaint patio bar nestled amid towering trees and the stylish Lounge Bar that is reminiscent of Paris in the Roaring Twenties.
The Room – Modern comforts meets Art Deco style
Unwind in a cosy Classic Room featuring a queen bed with soft goose-down blanket and pillows, flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, thick Terry robes and slippers, an ensuite with lush Le Cinq Codet bath products and contemporary décor.
Superior Upgrade: Upgrade to a Superior Room bathed in natural light and oozing artistic elegance.
VIP Suite Upgrade: Want more space? Upgrade to a 38sqm Junior Suite draped in stunning wooden décor and featuring full-height bay windows reflective of an artist’s loft. BONUS: Upgraded suite guests will also receive a platter of cheese and cold cuts served with a glass of white, rose or red wine each at The Patio, and tickets for a scenic Seine River cruise with Bateaux Parisiens.
See & Do – Dine and drink like royalty
One of the most notoriously difficult tables to reserve in the city is at the high-end Frenchie Restaurant. Opened in 2009, this small space, tucked away in a tiny cobblestone street that used to be surrounded by the textile industry of the Sentier, offers playfully urban design touches like concrete tables and a corrugated iron bar amidst exposed brick walls and cosy dark wooden beams. The five-course dinner degustation menu shifts seasonally (USD$85 without drinks or USD$150 with wine pairings) and is well worth a try.
Drinks are best served shaken at Hotel Costes. There was a time when the frequently star-studded bar was one of the trendiest places to be seen in Paris; now, it’s also one of the most exclusive. Draped with crystal chandeliers and decorated with red velvet chaises and lampshades, you’d imagine a place like this to be all about the martinis; however, Le Bar’s strawberry daiquiri is a summer favourite. Don’t come here for the friendly service, come here for a luxurious way to start (or end) the night, and a singular chance to watch local fashion icons in their natural habitat.
