Offering striking interiors at every turn, the hotel’s stylish Izakaya Publico puts locally sourced, seasonal produce at the forefront of a theatrical Japanese menu. Fill up on a Queensland kingfish sashimi, gyozas and tataki fired by the country’s only warayaki grill, before enjoying sake-centric nightcaps at Bar 1603, winner of the OpenTable 2024 Diners’ Choice award.

Highlights

The Hotel — Inner-city art hotel near riverside thoroughfare

Borrowing from tales of Brisbane’s past, the thoughtfully curated artworks at Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre, an IHG Hotel, invites you to know more about this sun-kissed city. On the hotel’s exterior facade, you’ll find artist ‘Blends’ mural of a blue wren, poised 16 storeys high, and installed in homage to the Brisbane author Trent Dalton’s book ‘Boy Swallows Universe’. On entry, Bronte Larsson’s mural of suffragette seamstress Emma Milla paints the outside wall, filing cabinets make up the check-in desk (a nod to the hotel’s proximity to the Law District), and six-metre-high red doors and a graffiti covered tuk tuk coffee cart await in the lobby as just a taste of the hotel’s art offerings.

Dining will whisk you away to Japan, as the onsite Izakaya Publico welcomes you with intimate booth seating, dim-lighting under large lanterns and the country’s only warayaki – a firey grill fuelled by hay, imparting a sweet, smoky flavour. The kitchen is headed by an impressive alumnus, including a former Nobu chef, ensuring you are in good hands.

The very best of the city is at your fingertips here, with popular South Bank just a 15-minute walk away across Victoria Bridge. Take a 10-minute taxi ride and you’ll reach Fortitude Valley, where bars serve quirky cocktails and there’s always a new place to go dancing. Nearby, you’ll find Queen Street Mall, with its hundreds of shops and endless dining options. Whether you’ve come to Brisbane for work or play, you couldn’t be better placed.
