Described as the “hidden gem in Paris’ 8th arrondissement” by Vogue, this resplendent 19th-century hotel particulier is your ideal base from which to experience the City of Love.

Hotel Alfred Sommier, the ancestral estate of a French sugar baron, has beautifully preserved original features that offer a romantic nod to its aristocratic past. Enjoy a meal in the grand drawing room, a parquet-floored salon adorned with Louis XV decor, or sip a tipple in The Bar, formerly the mansion’s fumoir (smoking room). The menu at Restaurant Les Caryatides transports guests back in time with French dishes reminiscent of those once served to the Sommier family.

Highlights

The Hotel – 19th-century ancestral mansion in Paris’ glamorous 8th arrondissement

Formerly the stately residence of the Sommier family, Hotel Alfred Sommier’s cream-stone courtyard, parquet floors, and gilded frescoes whisper of a decadent past, now exquisitely preserved for the fortunate few who stay here.

The hotel, still owned by a descendant of the Sommiers, is steeped in history, with reminders of their life woven throughout the property. Chef Franco Miotto’s menu is a tribute to the family’s cherished traditions, featuring dishes inspired by their favourite meals – such as gourmet pork pies they savoured after countryside hunts, wine from their home in Burgundy, and nostalgic desserts from Alfred Sommier’s childhood. Select rooms boast original marble fireplaces, the mansion’s architectural plans are elegantly displayed in gilded frames, and prints of the family’s grand chateaus grace the walls of the guestrooms.

Guests are encouraged to spend leisurely days sitting in the gardens, staying snug in the wood-panelled bar or enjoying a refreshing cucumber water by the 1916 Pleyel piano. The hotel also provides spa services in dedicated treatment rooms, using lavish products from KOS PARIS.

Beautiful boutique sized hotel, around the corner from La Madeleine. Rooms are small but nice, great bathrooms. AC will get you to 73F. We had a lovely view of the courtyard and those nice wall murals. The hotel is on a quiet street, with a nice courtyard, large enough to host parties (2 during our stay). The wait staff was nice, but the restaurant wouldn’t split a dinner bill between two rooms, so we only ate there once. Breakfast (included) is very nice. There is an extra Parisian tax (à la NYC) that will add a few hundred euros on to your stay, so beware!

The location was good and the hotel room was nice. They responded immediately when I had a problem, which was very helpful. The owner and staff were also kind, and I was very happy to be welcomed warmly in a homely atmosphere. I had a wonderful time that I will never forget. I would like to go to Paris again just to stay at this hotel. I am very grateful.

The Alfred Sommier Hotel is beautiful. The concierge service is impeccable, professional, caring. We loved working with your staff. Breakfast is delicious. Rooms are charming, old world but up to date with luxuries. All our needs were met and more. It’s like a home away from home.

Definitely not a five star hotel! The place has good bones, but they aren’t keeping it up and repairs are not done properly. The toilet room has no running water and you must go all the way around to wash your hands. Hotel is decorated very cute except for new modern photos that are placed over the beds that don’t go with the hotel theme. The downstairs courtyard is very cute. Large elevator. Restaurant is terrible. I would not recommend spending extra money for this particular hotel… they need to improve and really just do the bare essentials of cleaning.
