Casa Malca is an incredible place if you like boutique hotels. The rooms are huge and very comfortable, with direct access to the pool and the beach. The hotel's two restaurants are spectacular; yes, a little pricey, but every dish is totally worth it. Plus, the entire hotel is filled with art thanks to the owner's collection, which makes it unique. The best thing is the service: the entire staff is super attentive, friendly, and respectful. A special thanks to Fausto, Clemente, and Ángel, who made our stay perfect. Yum bo'otik. We also took private excursions offered by the hotel, and they were fantastic. Thanks to Helios, our guide, and Obet, the boat captain, for making the experience even more special. Tak sáamal, in k'i'ik'el

We spent a few days at Casa Malca and I have to say, the service was excellent, the room was stylish, and staying in Pablo Escobar’s former house was quite amusing. That being said, I must emphasize the huge downside: the beach was completely unusable due to massive amounts of sargassum. Not only could we not go to the beach, but the smell was unbearable. It was such a nuisance that we had to shorten our stay, as it was nearly impossible to enjoy being outdoors. Here’s the main issue: while the hotel allowed us to cancel three nights, they refused any real refund. Instead, they turned two nights into credits that must be spent at the hotel, and charged the third night as a penalty. Their explanation was that the problem was caused by an “unpredictable natural phenomenon.” However, when we spoke with staff, it became clear that this “unpredictable” issue happens every year around the same time… It’s a shame, because the property could be wonderful. I would recommend double-checking conditions yourself before any booking, because the hotel will not warn you. For the record, there were also loud workouts taking place right in front of the spa—again, with no prior warning.

I stayed at Casa Malca in Tulum (01–05 August 2025) and the experience was very disappointing compared to how the hotel presents itself online. The beach was unusable – completely covered with seaweed, giving off a constant foul smell, and swimming was impossible. None of this was mentioned before arrival, and the photos showing a pristine white-sand beach are misleading. Inside the hotel, the basics were not working. The bathroom, although very large with two toilets and a big shower, was impractical: taps looked like they belonged in a kitchen, the burnt wooden doors were more decorative than functional, and the shower pressure was more like a power washer than something usable. The in-room safe did not work. Common areas felt neglected, the entrance looked more like a railway storage yard than a luxury hotel, and parking was just a few spaces under trees across the road – our car was covered in bird droppings with no assistance offered. Breakfast was advertised as complimentary, but a service fee was charged (211 MXN in my case). Staff were not welcoming, service was neutral at best. The wider Tulum area also added to the disappointment – bumpy roads with potholes, narrow streets, loud beach clubs, and rubbish everywhere. Overall, Casa Malca is very far from the luxury experience it advertises. For the high price charged, I left feeling misled and cheated.
