So first of all, the reviews are misleading and make me believe the reviewers didn't actually stay in the hotel. The rooms were beautiful (with traditional Japanese aesthetics with a modern touch) and comfortable, not to mention clean. The front desk and cleaning staff were all friendly. Lobby is amazing beautiful with a huge painting of Nijo Castle, a diorama of the same, and waterfall outside the restaurant. Parking was also great, and so was the location - right across from Nijo Castle! We were happy IHG members with this one!!!

Extremely poor Wifi.Bordering between unusable and barely working most of the time. Rooms are beautifully designed, reasonably priced in both cash and points. Love the automated shade controller. Bathroom is beautifully appointed with nice tile and faux wood paneling. Beds are comfortable, location is unbeatable next to Nijo Castle and the subway.

The hotel must be slowly renovating rooms (note to hotel: you should make the fact that renovations are ongoing clear on your website), so the reviews here will be either good or bad depending on whether the reviewer stayed in a new or old room. Unfortunately we had two very badly dated rooms on the 6th floor that felt like a time machine back to a 1980s Holiday Inn. Other reviewers clearly stayed in renovated rooms. So if you want a good experience, make sure you figure out which room you're getting before you commit. Location is OK and we appreciated the shuttle bus to Kyoto station, but if you have limited time and want to be closer to more of the action then there are better choices. Service was a bit lacking - both times we went to concierge it took a while to get any attention, and even at reception they seemed a little disinterested (even though it was very quiet). I've spent many nights at IHG hotels in recent years and this was definitely a below par experience.

I would absolutely stay again! I was slightly concerned by previous reviews, but we had a very good experience. Good location not far from Metro/bus stops. The free shuttle to/from Kyoto railway station is a very good bonus. Very walkable to multiple cafés and 7-11 stores. Our rooms were on the eighth floor and were very nice and obviously recently renovated. The pool is definitely older but functional. I enjoyed an amazing 90 minute massage at the spa! The front desk seemed understaffed at times, but were always very nice.
